Spirit Deck Pan #8

Over Sols 2016-2018 (Sept. 4-6, 2009) Spirit tipped her Panoramic cameras down to acquire another self portrait. Since the cleaning event around Sol 1976, a layer of dust has accumulated on the solar arrays (see the Sol 1355 and Sol 1976 deckpans for comparison). This and the previous deckpan on 1976 were taken from the same location, as Spirit sat embedded in deep sand at Troy.

The vertical projection used here produces the best view of the rover deck, though it distorts the ground and antennas somewhat. The eight-pointed star shape near the front of the rover (top of the image) marks the location of the camera mast, which is out of view of the Pancam atop the mast. Pancam's 601nm, 535nm and 482nm filters were used in this mosaic.
