Pioneer Mound

This mosaic was acquired by the Mars Exploration Rover Spirit on Sol 1865 (April 1, 2009). Pioneer Mound rises in the center of this image, and lies near the edge of the Columbia Hills. Beyond the mound, the plains of Gusev Crater can be seen in the distance. The mosaic is roughly 30 degrees wide. This feature was imaged again on Sol 1898. Pancam's 753nm, 535nm, and 432nm filters were used in this mosaic. Three versions are available below at full resolution: an approximate true color rendering, a false color stretch to enhance the subtle color differences in the scene, and a stereo anaglyph for 3D viewing with red blue glasses.
