Gilbert Block
The
Opportunity rover acquired this mosaic of a block within the Gilbert
area on Sol 1427 (Jan. 28, 2008). Gilbert, named for
geologist G. K. Gilbert, is one of the lower layers in the stratigraphy
of Victoria Crater. This block
was imaged on sols 1425,
1428, and 1429
as well, at different times of day, in order to view the block under
varying lighting conditions. The mosaic's field of view is about 30 degrees across and about
15
degrees high.
This mosaic was created using
Pancam's 753-nm, 535-nm, and 432-nm filters. Two versions are offered
here at full resolution: an approximate true color rendering, and a
false color stretch to bring out subtle color differences in the scene.
