West Valley, part 1

This mosaic was acquired by the Mars Exploration Rover Spirit on Sol 1366 (November 6, 2007).   The image is part 1 of a view of West Valley from the western edge of Home Plate during Spirit's traverse to the north. This survey was intended to improve the knowledge of this area should Spirit drive south through the valley in the future. See part 2 and part 3 of the West Valley mosaic. Or for the complete panorama, go here. Pancam's 753nm, 535nm, and 432nm filters were used in making this mosaic.  Two versions are provided at full resolution: an approximate true color rendering, and a false color rendering which enhances the subtle color differences in the scene.
