Drive Direction

This mosaic was acquired by the Mars Exploration Rover Spirit on Sol 1353 (October 23, 2007).  The approximately 59 degree wide view shows the terrain in front of the rover as the rover team was preparing to drive Spirit off of the southern part of Home Plate. Shortly after this drive direction was acquired, the rover team decided that instead of driving south off of Home Plate, Spirit was going to drive along the western edge before quickly cutting across Home Plate to her third winter haven location along the north-facing slope of Home Plate where Pancam acquired the Bonestell Panorama. The bright saturated artifact just left of center is an area where the wheels had previously scratched the surface revealing bright material below the dust. Pancam's 432 nm filter was used in making this mosaic.  Two versions are provided at full resolution: a mosaic made from the left eye only, and a stereo anaglyph for 3D viewing through red-blue glasses.
