Workvolume

         This Pancam mosaic shows Spirit's workvolume at the rover's Winter Haven location. Spirit was parked at Winter Haven on a small north-facing slope to maximize solar energy input to survive the Martian winter. This stayover presented an opportunity to do more intensive, long-term investigations of the rover's surroundings than typically is possible during warmer seasons when the vehicle spends more time driving from place to place.

         Spirit obtained this high-resolution mosaic on Sol 973 (September 28, 2006) using Pancam's 753 nm, 535 nm, and 432 nm filters. An identical mosaic was taken on Sol 820 before the deployment of the IDD, as Spirit began her investigations of the area.
