Spirit Tracks and Rock

The Spirit rover acquired this mosaic of its tracks and a nearby rock called "Wishstone" on Sol 332 (Dec. 9, 2004). The rock is about 30 cm (about 1 ft) across. The rover's wheels stir up the topmost layers of martian soil, and imaging the tracks gives scientists a look into lower, less weathered soil. This mosaic spans approximately 40 degrees.
This mosaic was acquired in Pancam's 753-nm, 535-nm, and 432-nm filters. Two versions are offered here at full resolution: an approximately true color rendering, and a false color stretch to bring out subtle color differences in the scene.
