Recon

This mosaic was acquired by the Mars Exploration Rover Opportunity on Sol 3097 (October 9, 2012).  The image shows an area of outcrop at Shoemaker Ridge on Cape York. While the rover studied Whitewater Lake, it took this shot at a 2.5 meter (8.2 foot) piece of outcrop behind it. Part of the rover deck is visible near the lower edge of the scene. Pancam's 753nm, 535nm, and 432nm filters were used in making this mosaic.  Two versions are provided at full resolution: an approximate true color rendering, and a false color rendering which enhances the subtle color differences in the scene.
