Whitewater Lake

        This mosaic was acquired by the Mars Exploration Rover Opportunity on Sol 3071 (September 13, 2012). After leaving nearby target Kirkwood, the rover visited Whitewater Lake, a light toned slab of outcrop atop Shoemaker Ridge. The portion of outcrop shown here is about 70 centimeters wide (28 inches). The rover analyzed two targets in this area: Azilda and Chelmsford. Opportunity's right front wheel can be seen at the lower right side of this mosaic, along with parts of its deck and Instrument Deployment Device (IDD). Pancam's 601nm, 535nm, and 482nm filters were used in this vertical projection mosaic.  Three versions are available below at full resolution: an approximate true color rendering, a false color stretch to enhance the subtle color differences in the scene, and a stereo anaglyph for 3D viewing with red-blue glasses.
