North Pole

        This mosaic was acquired by the Mars Exploration Rover Opportunity on Sol 2953 (May 14, 2012).  North Pole is the name given to a bright patch of dust near the rover's winter site at Greeley Haven on the North facing slope of Cape York. The rover's own tracks cut diagonally through this image, and a shadow of the Pancam Mast Assembly (PMA) appears in the lower left corner. Pancam's 753nm, 535nm, and 432nm filters were used in this mosaic.  Two versions are available below at full resolution: an approximate true color rendering, and a false color stretch to enhance the subtle color differences in the scene.
