Burns Cliff

The Opportunity rover acquired this beautiful mosaic of Burns Cliff and background rim of Endurance Crater on Sol 278 (Nov. 04, 2004). This roughly 30 degree wide view shows the clear layering visible in Burns Cliff that made it such an interesting target to project scientists, as well as examples of the fracturing and backfilling of the crater rim in the background.
This mosaic was acquired in Pancam's 753-nm, 535-nm, and 432-nm filters. Two versions are offered here at full resolution: an approximately true color rendering, and a false color stretch to bring out subtle color differences in the scene.
