Palenque Uchben  << back to mosaics

Palenque Uchben

This mosaic was acquired by the Mars Exploration Rover Spirit on Sol 278 (October 14, 2004). Palenque Uchben was named after an archeological site in Mexico. The field of view shown here spans approximately 67 degrees. Near the right side of this mosaic, the bright metal Low Gain Antenna (LGA) can be seen, along with a small portion of the rounded High Gain Antenna (HGA). Because it is much closer to the camera than the rocks behind it, the LGA appears in two different locations in this image. Pancam's 753nm, 535nm, and 432nm filters were used in making this mosaic.  Three versions are provided at full resolution: an approximate true color rendering, a false color rendering which enhances the subtle color differences in the scene, and a stereo anaglyph for 3D viewing with red blue glasses.
