Gemini 5  << back to mosaics

Gemini 5

This mosaic was acquired by the Mars Exploration Rover Opportunity on Sol 2619 (June 6, 2011).  Initially a monochrome mosaic was acquired on Sol 2617 to use to plan the next drive on the trek to Endeavour Crater. Then on Sol 2619, color images were acquired of the Gemini 5, a small crater approximately 16 meters in diameter, and overlaid on the more extensive monochrome mosaic. This crater was named for a 1965 8-day human spaceflight mission in NASA's Gemini program. Pancam's 753nm, 535nm, and 432nm filters were used in making this mosaic.  Two versions are provided at full resolution: an approximate true color rendering, and a false color rendering which enhances the subtle color differences in the scene.
