Nowitna

        This mosaic was acquired by the Mars Exploration Rover Opportunity on Sol 2330 (August 13, 2010). Nowitna is a gravel pile, the dark area in the center of the mosaic. Such areas of gravel are sometimes visible as dark spots in orbital images taken by HiRISE (High Resolution Imaging Science Experiment) aboard MRO (Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter). This mosaic was acquired at a mid-drive stop. Pancam's 753nm, 535nm, and 432nm filters were used in this mosaic.  Two versions are available below at full resolution: an approximate true color rendering, and a false color stretch to enhance the subtle color differences in the scene. The field of view is about 30° wide.
