Look Back at Concepcion

This mosaic was acquired by the Mars Exploration Rover Opportunity on Sol 2175 (March 7, 2010). As Opportunity finished her survey of Concepcion Crater and prepared to begin the long trip south to Endeavour Crater, the rover took this mosaic looking back at the young crater. The 10 meter diameter crater can be seen in the center-right midground, with the rubble and dark soil surrounding the depression. The rover's tracks can just be made out as they snake over ripples in the background.  Pancam's 753nm, 535nm, and 432nm filters were used in this mosaic.  Two versions are available below at full resolution: an approximate true color rendering, and a false color stretch to enhance the subtle color differences in the scene.
