Cebu Strait

This mosaic was acquired by the Mars Exploration Rover Opportunity on Sol 2147 (February 6, 2010). The image shows two targets near Concepcion Crater, Cebu Strait (larger rock on the right) and Lintuan Beach (large rock on the left). Both targets show layering, which interests scientists as a clue to the past of this area of Meridiani Planum. Part of the rover's solar panel can be seen in the lower left edge of the mosaic. Cebu Strait is roughly 20 centimeters across, for scale. Pancam's 753nm, 535nm, and 432nm filters were used in this mosaic.  Two versions are available below at full resolution: an approximate true color rendering, and a false color stretch to enhance the subtle color differences in the scene.
