Cyclops

        This mosaic was acquired by the Mars Exploration Rover Spirit on Sol 1977 (July 26, 2009). Cyclops shows an area of disturbed soil directly in front of the rover. The left frame contains bright soil churned up by the Spirit's left front wheel, the shadow of the Instrument Deployment Device (IDD), and a circular depression where the Rock Abrasion Tool (RAT) was used to bore into the soil. The right frame shows soil displaced by the rover's right wheel. Ultimately Spirit would never leave this site, and remains embedded there to this day. Pancam's 601nm, 535nm, and 482nm filters were used in this vertical projection mosaic.  Three versions are available below at full resolution: an approximate true color rendering, a false color stretch to enhance the subtle color differences in the scene, and a stereo anaglyph for 3D viewing with red blue glasses.
