Dusty Cape Verde

         The Opportunity rover acquired this mosaic of Cape Verde on Sol 1578 (July 1, 2008).  At this point in the mission, Opportunity's pancam was dealing with dusty front sapphire windows, which was darkening the right side of full frame images.  Though the rightmost third of each pointing in this mosaic has been subframed out, the dust caused reflected sunlight to wash out  the bottom right of each frame.  The far right pointings suffer most due to the sun's position relative to the rover when the mosaic was taken.  The field of view is roughly 40 degrees across and 15 degrees high.
         This mosaic was acquired in Pancam's 753-nm, 535-nm, and 432-nm filters. Two versions are offered here at full resolution: an approximate true color rendering, and a false color stretch to bring out subtle color differences in the scene. Also provided is an overhead view of Victoria Crater showing the approximate location of the rover when this mosaic was taken.
