Cape Verde (north face) |
||||
This image taken by the panoramic camera on Mars Exploration Rover Opportunity shows the north face of Cape Verde, an approximately 6 meter (20 foot) high promontory in the west side of Victoria Crater. The crater itself is about 800 meters (one-half mile) wide, and lies over 5 kilometers (almost 4 miles) away from Opportunity's Eagle Crater landing site. This mosaic was taken at 11:10 LST on sol 1006 (November 21, 2006) from Cape St. Mary, through Pancam's 753 nm, 535 nm, 432 nm filters and is available in approximate true color (shown above) and false color versions.
Same Scene in ShadowHere is the same scene taken later in the Sol, with the outcrop in shadow (above). This mosaic was taken at 15:25 LST on sol 1006 (November 21, 2006) through Pancam's 753 nm, 535 nm, 432 nm filters, and is offered at full resolution in both approximate true color (shown above) and false color versions. Also available is an overhead view from the HiRISE camera on the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter (MRO) showing the location of Opportunity when this mosaic was taken.
