This mosaic was acquired by the Mars Exploration Rover Spirit on Sol 058 (March 2, 2004). This view of tracks left behind by Spirit covers a field of view about 30 degrees across. The rovers' drive system allows them to turn in place, and such a maneuver left this complicated track path in Spirit's wake. The soil that gets turned up by the rovers' wheels allows scientists to glimpse soil just underneath the surface. Pancam's 753nm, 535nm, and 432nm filters were used in this mosaic. Two versions are available below at full resolution: an approximate true color rendering, and a false color stretch to enhance the subtle color differences in the scene.
