Ulysses at Troy |
||||
This mosaic was acquired by the Mars Exploration Rover Spirit on Sol 2163 (February 2, 2010). The image shows the disturbed soil called Ulysses in front of the rover, along with the robotic arm (Instrument Deployment Device, or IDD) studying it. At the time of this image, Spirit was mired in the soil at Troy, making preparations for her third Martian winter. Pancam's 753nm, 535nm, and 432nm filters were used to create this mosaic. The distortion in this vertically projected view is due to the stretched perspective the Pancam has when looking at very close up targets. Two versions are available below at full resolution: an approximate true color rendering, and a false color stretch to enhance the subtle color differences in the scene.
