A Moment In Time

This mosaic was acquired by the Mars Exploration Rover Opportunity on Sol 2229 (May 2, 2010). Sometimes refered to as "Two Worlds, One Sun" (a reference to the motto on the Pancam calibration target, seen at the bottom), this mosaic was taken in coordination with the "A Moment in Time" event sponsored by the New York Time photography blog, Lens. Taken at 15:00 local true solar time on Mars, the dunes of Meridiani Planum can be seen stretching to the horizon as Opportunity makes her way south toward Endeavour Crater. Pancam's 601nm, 535nm, and 482nm filters were used in this mosaic.  Two versions are available below at full resolution: an approximate true color rendering, and a false color stretch to enhance the subtle color differences in the scene.
