Eight Position Survey

This mosaic was acquired by the Mars Exploration Rover Opportunity on Sol 2172 (March 4, 2010). Opportunity took this image as part of a series of mosaics surveying the area around Concepcion Crater. The lighter-colored slabs of bedrock, the dark soil rays, and the excavated rubble all provide information on the crater and its history. The rover's tracks can just be made out as they snake over ripples in the background.  Pancam's 753nm, 535nm, and 432nm filters were used in this mosaic. The field of view is approximately 53° wide. Two versions are available below at full resolution: an approximate true color rendering, and a false color stretch to enhance the subtle color differences in the scene.
