Workvolume

This Pancam mosaic shows Spirit's workvolume at the rover's Winter Haven location. Spirit was parked at Winter Haven on a small north-facing slope to maximize solar energy input to survive the Martian winter. This stayover presented an opportunity to do more intensive, long-term investigations of the rover's surroundings than typically is possible during warmer seasons when the vehicle spends more time driving from place to place.

Spirit obtained this high-resolution mosaic on Sol 820 (April 24, 2006) using Pancam's 753 nm, 535 nm, and 432 nm filters. An identical mosaic, taken on Sol 973 after Spirit's investigations of the area, shows subtle changes in the scene over 153 Sols, including debris which may have fallen from the IDD.
