Wing Survey (Left)

The Spirit rover surveyed outcrop looking in two directions along the edge of Home Plate on Sol 762 (February 23, 2006). These mosaics in which the rover looks to the left and right over its solar panels are called "wing" images. This is the view off Spirit's left wing (See the right side here). Note the difference in lighting between the two spatially separated sides of these two mosaics. These wing mosaics were acquired using Pancam's 753-nm, 535-nm, and 432-nm filters. Two versions are offered here at full resolution: an approximately true color rendering, and a false color stretch to bring out subtle color differences in the scene.
