Recon Imaging with MiniTES

This mosaic was acquired by the Mars Exploration Rover Spirit on Sol 579 (August 19, 2005). This is part of a coordinated observation with MiniTES (Miniature Thermal Emission Spectrometer) to survey the terrain directly in front of the rover after a drive. MiniTES analyzes radiated heat (thermal emissions) from rocks and soil to learn of their composition. Pancam's 753nm, 535nm, and 482nm filters were used in this mosaic.  Two versions are available below at full resolution: an approximate true color rendering, and a false color stretch to enhance the subtle color differences in the scene.
