Crab Claw   << back to mosaics

Crab Claw

The Spirit rover acquired this mosaic of a rock face on Sol 476 (May 06, 2005). Named for the claw-shaped, dust-filled cracks in the rock, this view was taken near a target being brushed by the RAT instrument. You can see part of the upturned RAT at the lower right of the mosaic.
This mosaic was acquired in Pancam's 753-nm, 535-nm, and 432-nm filters. Two versions are offered here at full resolution: an approximately true color rendering, and a false color stretch to bring out subtle color differences in the scene.
