Broken Hammer

This mosaic was acquired by the Mars Exploration Rover Opportunity on Sol 3101 (October 13, 2012). After leaving Whitewater Lake, the rover drove upslope and took this image of a nearby mound called Broken Hammer. In an effort to streamline the imaging at this location, only the most important parts of the target were imaged, leading to the intentional gap in this view. Each frame is 16 degrees wide. Pancam's 753nm, 535nm, and 432nm filters were used in this mosaic.  Two versions are available below at full resolution: an approximate true color rendering, and a false color stretch to enhance the subtle color differences in the scene.
