Ground View for Sky Flats

This mosaic was acquired by the Mars Exploration Rover Opportunity on Sol 2890 (March 11, 2012).  Opportunity took this mosaic, along with an image of the sky, in order to provide calibration data for the Pancam instrument. By regularly imaging relatively even or "flat" areas, the calibration team can monitor changes in the Pancam cameras. The field of view is approximately 24° wide. Pancam's 753nm, 535nm, and 432nm filters were used in this mosaic.  Two versions are available below at full resolution: an approximate true color rendering, and a false color stretch to enhance the subtle color differences in the scene.
