Path to Burns Cliff

The Opportunity rover acquired this perspective-bending mosaic of the ground leading up to Burns Cliff, in Endurance Crater, on Sol 269 (Oct. 26, 2004). This was one of two "drive direction" mosaics obtained at the time, taken to provide the Rover Planners with more information to make rover mobility decisions. Opportunity did end up approaching Burns Cliff, which can be seen up close in future mosaics. The view spans approximately 30 degrees.
This mosaic was acquired in Pancam's 753-nm, 535-nm, and 432-nm filters. Two versions are offered here at full resolution: an approximately true color rendering, and a false color stretch to bring out subtle color differences in the scene.
