Wopmay close up

The Opportunity rover acquired this mosaic of the cracked and weathered rock dubbed Wopmay on Sol 252 (Oct. 08, 2004) while exploring Endurance Crater. Different rock types weather and crack differently, and can provide clues to their formation and modification in the Martian environment, as well as to the Martian environment itself. This view is about 30 degrees across and high, at its widest and highest.
This mosaic was acquired in Pancam's 753-nm, 535-nm, and 432-nm filters. Two versions are offered here at full resolution: an approximately true color rendering, and a false color stretch to bring out subtle color differences in the scene.
