Nacan at Santa Maria

This mosaic was acquired by the Mars Exploration Rover Opportunity on Sol 2522-2525 (February 27-March 2, 2011).  While analyzing the rock Ruiz Garcia just below the rim of Santa Maria Crater, Opportunity acquired some images of the near rim on Sols 2522-2525, which were stitched together into this mosaic. Nacan is an indigenous Caribbean Taino word meaning "center". Pancam's 753nm, 535nm, and 432nm filters were used in making this mosaic.  Two versions are provided at full resolution: an approximate true color rendering, and a false color rendering which enhances the subtle color differences in the scene.
