Ray Survey  << back to mosaics

Ray Survey

This mosaic was acquired by the Mars Exploration Rover Opportunity on Sol 2166 (February 26, 2010).  Opportunity took this 5x1 mosaic as part of her ongoing survey of Concepcion Crater. The rubble and dark soil ejected on impact form what is known as a ray, extending out from Concepcion Crater. The largest rock in the scene is about 50 centimeters across. Pancam's 753nm, 535nm, and 432nm filters were used in making this mosaic.  Two versions are provided at full resolution: an approximate true color rendering, and a false color rendering which enhances the subtle color differences in the scene.
