Western Survey

This mosaic was acquired by the Mars Exploration Rover Spirit on Sol 1374 (November 14, 2007).   The image shows the terrain west of Home Plate as Spirit made the trek north to a safe slope to spend the winter. This was part of a survey to assess terrain for a possible journey back through this region after winter. Pancam's 753nm, 535nm, and 432nm filters were used in making this mosaic.  Two versions are provided at full resolution: an approximate true color rendering, and a false color rendering which enhances the subtle color differences in the scene.
