Fracture

This mosaic was acquired by the Mars Exploration Rover Spirit on Sol 1316 (September 15, 2007).  These images were taken while exploring Site 2 of Home Plate, before driving on to Site 3. Images like these are used, along with the heat sensing Miniature Thermal Emission Spectrometer (Mini-TES) instrument, to characterize a possible fracture in this part of the Home Plate feature. Pancam's 753nm, 535nm, and 432nm filters were used in making this mosaic.  Two versions are provided at full resolution: an approximate true color rendering, and a false color rendering which enhances the subtle color differences in the scene.
