The Spirit rover acquired this mosaic on Sol 100 (April 14, 2004) using Pancam's 753 nm, 535 nm, and 432 nm filters. The Columbia Hills, which would later provide the stage for Spirit's most important discoveries, are over 1900 meters away from the rover at the time this mosaic was taken, and rise up in the background of this image. Two versions are offered at full resolution: an approximate true color mosaic, and a false color stretch to bring out subtle color differences in the scene. Jim Bell
