Drive Direction

This mosaic was acquired by the Mars Exploration Rover Spirit on Sol 061 (March 5, 2004). The view shows a densely populated rock and boulder field stretching to the horizon. Spanning a view of almost 60 degrees across, drive direction mosaics such as these allow Rover Planners to make decisions regarding how and where a rover will travel. Compare this view with the drive direction mosaic taken on sol 63.   Pancam's 753nm, 535nm, and 432nm filters were used in making this mosaic.  Two versions are provided at full resolution: an approximate true color rendering, and a false color rendering which enhances the subtle color differences in the scene.
