Workvolume

This mosaic was acquired by the Mars Exploration Rover Spirit on Sol 050 (February 23, 2004).  This was taken post-drive to examine the area of the in front of the rover, with the hope that something interesting might be there to do in-situ science on with the instruments on the robotic arm. The science team considered doing some short in-situ science on one of the light toned rocks in this image that was reachable by the robotic arm before driving. But the energy contraints limited what could be done that day, and so it was decided to drive on without deploying the arm. Pancam's 753nm, 535nm, and 482nm filters were used in making this mosaic.  Two versions are provided at full resolution: an approximate true color rendering, and a false color rendering which enhances the subtle color differences in the scene.
