Workvolume

This mosaic was acquired by the Mars Exploration Rover Spirit on Sol 045 (February 17, 2004). This was taken post-drive to examine the area of the in front of the rover. The rover completed its drive to the center of the Laguna Hollow crater, which is a small 3m diameter crater that has been highly eroded with time. In susbsequent sols, the rover made a trench by dragging a wheel, then analyzed the exposed subsurface soil with instruments on its robotic arm to determine the composition of the soil.  Pancam's 753nm, 535nm, and 482nm filters were used in this mosaic.  Two versions are available below at full resolution: an approximate true color rendering, and a false color stretch to enhance the subtle color differences in the scene.
