Lander Pan

This mosaic was acquired by the Mars Exploration Rover Spirit on Sol 039 (February 11, 2004). Spirit looked back at her "nest" as she began her trek across the plains to the Columbia Hills. This landing area was named Columbia Memorial Station in honor of the astronauts who perished in the Space Shuttle Columbia accident in 2003.
Pancam's 601nm, 535nm, and 482nm filters were used in this mosaic. Two versions are available below at full resolution: an approximate true color rendering, and a false color stretch to enhance the subtle color differences in the scene.
