RAT Holes

This mosaic was acquired by the Mars Exploration Rover Opportunity on Sol 37 (March 1, 2004). This is a mosaic of the McKittrick (bottom) and Quadalupe (top) RAT holes in Eagle Crater. The RAT holes are about 4.5 centimeters in diameter, or about the width of the top of a typical soda can. Pancam's 601nm, 535nm, and 432nm filters were used in this mosaic. Two versions are available below at full resolution: an approximate true color rendering, and a false color stretch to enhance the subtle color differences in the scene.
