Sol 5 Postcard

         This mosaic was acquired by the Mars Exploration Rover Spirit on Sol 005 (January 7, 2004).  This is the same mosaic as taken on So1 1 of the mission. However all of the images in this mosaic were downlinked to Earth. This is a look at the terrain around the lander very early in the mission when the rover had not yet stood up. Pancam's 753nm, 535nm, and 482nm filters were used in making this mosaic.  Two versions are provided at full resolution: an approximate true color rendering, and a false color rendering which enhances the subtle color differences in the scene.
